Taleem hamesha- a project undertaken by Taleem Sab Ke Liye to educate the housekeeping and security staff at Nixor College, a program aimed at providing education to those that were deprived of this right in their childhood. Initially, I applied to teach mathematics to the housekeeping staff but was offered to teach general by the CEO considering my debating abilities and general knowledge. I am thankful that I taught general instead of mathematics because the experience was one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, I could not take more than two classes but the two that I took gave me a sense of satisfaction that has no alternative. The first class I took was with Batool Hisham and we discussed earthquakes. This was done on the request of one of the members of the housekeeping staff who witnessed the 2005 earthquake. We discussed what are earthquakes, how are they caused, what damage do they do, why does Pakistan experience so many earthquakes and what precautionary measures can be taken. Diagrams were drawn and they were shown videos about earthquakes and precautionary measures. The most captivating thing was the interest with which all of students were watching those videos. At the end of the class, two of the staff members stood up and talked about earthquakes and what they learnt about them. The feeling that I got from the fact that I helped them speak up and learn about this world was priceless. The second class was on Allama Iqbal as they wanted to know about the leaders of Pakistan. The staff members were told about his life and how his leadership skills helped the Muslims of sub-continent to rise. A healthy discussion followed where we discussed the achievements of other leaders like Jinnah. It may be a very small thing that I have done but every time that I pass Shabbir Bhai or any other staff member and they call me MISS, I feel that, yes, I have contributed something to making this society a more educated one!
