Education is amongst the fundamental rights of every human being. Let them be rich or poor, strong or weak or even old or young. Taleem Sab Ke Liye has only one goal, simply, education for all. We strive to reach that goal and by doing so, provide education to everyone regardless of age, cast, gender, wealth or any other social boundaries.

While I was in Makkah a few days ago, I got a sudden surge, of a feeling I’m not very familiar too, a weird mix of useless and helpless. It was around lunch time on that swelteringly hot Friday afternoon. People were hungry. So just as I took the bag of hot, hot food from the cashier at Burger King’s, two men began lashing out at each other in fluent Arabic. I could not understand what they were saying or why the argument had started, I just wanted to sort it out, be the mediator. Alas, however, I can’t speak nor understand Arabic. If I felt useless not knowing how to speak Arabic, just imagine how people feel not knowing English in Pakistan, especially when knowing English could mean better jobs with higher wages and they never got to study the language.
All this ‘Harry Potter’ got me thinking, Hogwarts was so important to both Harry and Voldemort. Niether felt truly at home anywhere else, Voldemort even chose it as one of the places to hide a part of his soul. What was Hogwarts? First and foremost a school! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if students in our schools could feel at home whilst at school? Its possible, in private schools! In our government schools? Not a chance! While I was volunteering at TSKL’s summer school which was set up at Gul Hasan Lashari School in Gizri, Rafiq Bhai, the resident care-taker of the school gave some shocking info about the school’s daily routine. Like all our schools, the day begins bright and early at 8am. The teachers waltz in at 1 pm and sit in the staff room for an hour. Then its lunch time after which at 3pm they go into their classes, right a sentence on the board, ask the students to repeatedly copy it while they sit in the class, relaxing. What’s worse is that they get paid large salaries for eg. Rs3 35,000! I don’t know about others but I don’t thinks that’s how a school should be.
These are just some of the hindrances I’ve seen in Pakistan, stopping it from properly educating its people. The morbid situation of education in Pakistan and the boundaries society have set up are mainly why I joint TSKL in the first place, these experiences I’ve had after joining TSKL have only strengthened my conviction.
